Finance/ Accounting Summer Intern

Position Summary

The Finance Intern at Comfort Systems USA offers a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the finance world, within one of our key Finance and Accounting teams. This comprehensive internship will enhance your professional skills and prepare you for a successful full-time career. The position requires an above average ability to be a problem-solver and forward thinker. These skills assist in helping a corporate team meet critical deadlines, objectives, and ensures that Comfort Systems USA continues to be a leader and innovator in the construction industry. The Comfort Systems USA Corporate office is housed in Houston, TX and is critical to our financial success.

Here is an overview of the financial departments:

Tax: Manages tax compliance, planning, audits, transfer pricing, and reporting to minimize tax liabilities and support business decisions.
Internal Audit: Evaluates the company's internal control environment, identifies opportunities for improvement, and adds value through objective assessments.
Operations and Acquisitions: Supports major corporate decisions through budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for the CFO, CEO, and the Board of Directors.
Finance and Accounting: Specializes in General Accounting, External Reporting, Internal, and Governance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Tax:

Prepare global reconciliations and cash tax projections.
Handle book/tax differences and workpapers for tax returns.
Engage in special tax projects and support global tax functions.

Internal Audit:

Collaborate with team members and participate in group decision-making.
Identify and assess key risks and controls.
Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Prepare audit work papers, reports, and recommendations for improvements.
Perform accounting and analytical services for various departments.

Operations and Acquisitions:

Support business segments and manufacturing sites with financial reporting.
Prepare monthly forecasts and manage the annual budgeting process.
Develop financial packages and perform scenario planning.
Conduct ad hoc analyses to drive effective decision-making.

Finance and Accounting:

Create reports, reconciliations, and flux analyses.
Ensure accuracy of financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
Contribute to process improvements and efficiency enhancements.
Perform month-end closing tasks, journal entries, and cost allocations.
Conduct audit functions as needed.

Education and Experience

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
Overall GPA of 3.0 or greater.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with strong multitasking skills.
Basic knowledge of US GAAP and/or tax principles.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
